Coximed Tabs are an oral veterinary treatment specifically formulated for the prevention and management of Coccidiosis in pigeons and certain birds of prey (raptors). The tablets are designed for individual, accurate dosing to ensure the full therapeutic amount is delivered.
Formulation and Indication:
-
Active Ingredient: Each tablet contains 5 mg of Diclazuril, a recognized antiprotozoal agent targeting the Eimeria species of parasites responsible for Coccidiosis.
-
Targeted Use: Indicated for both active infection therapy and routine preventative dosing in susceptible birds. Coccidiosis affects the intestinal tract and can impair nutrient absorption, leading to reduced performance and growth issues, particularly in young birds.
-
Format: The tablet format ensures a single-dose administration, which simplifies handling and confirms that individual birds receive the correct treatment amount, unlike some water-soluble products.
-
Application Periods: The product is used preventatively during periods of increased stress or susceptibility, such as the racing season, the breeding season, and immediately after weaning young pigeons.
Administration Summary:
Coximed Tabs are administered directly into the pigeon's mouth. For preventative protocols, it is typically administered once monthly during the racing or breeding seasons. Youngsters are generally dosed the day after weaning. For sick birds, administration is followed by a repeat dose after 10 days, if necessary. It is often recommended to alternate Diclazuril-based treatments with other anticoccidial medications (e.g., those containing Sulphonamide) to minimize the risk of drug resistance.
